WHAT IS THE CITY COLLEGE STUDENT LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE (SLC) ALL ABOUT?

Do you want to give back to your cohort? Develop leadership skills? Make an impact on campus life?

The Student Leadership Committee is comprised of one Class Representative (aka “Class Rep”) from each cohort at City College. The members of the Committee are students who have volunteered their time in order to support the school and elevate their academic experience. The main goal of the Student Leadership Committee is to foster growth, create positive change, encourage strong academic performance, and engage in open dialogue between the student body and the administration of the school. The students who act as Class Reps serve as both a voice and an example of leadership for their peers.

WHAT DOES THE POSITION ENTAIL?

Members of the Student Leadership Committee are selected from either application and/or from a nomination from their program staff. The Class Reps will receive updates and information from the administration throughout the academic year as well as meeting once each quarter, either in person or remotely. These meetings are held on the first Tuesday of a given month and are an opportunity for collaboration and communication between the students and administration. Class Reps’ feedback and ideas are integral to the actualization of City College’s goal for constant improvement and these meetings are an open opportunity for them to address pertinent issues and amplify the voices of other students.

In addition to working as liaison between their cohorts and the administration, Class Reps also assist in various events throughout the year, driving student engagement and participation. Whether that means welcoming new students at Orientation, checking in graduates at Commencement, or being a smiling face at festive holiday gatherings. Class Reps also spearhead two charity events each year, not only giving back to the school, but the community at large. Each Rep has the opportunity to enhance Student Life at City College, and by doing so, enrich the lives of their peers.

LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS

Class Reps are invited to participate in a dedicated leadership workshop, delving into the essence of effective leadership. These workshops equip students with skills that transcend the classroom and contribute to their personal and professional growth.

Class Representatives’ additional roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving on Advisory Boards
  • Uniting the institution and the various healthcare programs offered
  • Helping to identify areas and policies that can be adjusted to better serve the needs of the community
  • Representing the institution at various events throughout the academic year, such as regularly scheduled Open Houses
